The Dramatic & Musical Society (DMS) is pleased to announce its next production will be Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss II in March 2012. This is a stunning show with beautiful music and will of course be performed with a DMS twist!
Anyone who is anyone is going to Prince Orlofsky’s Ball. However, no one should really be there at all! Eisenstein should be going to prison, his wife and her lover Alfred are keeping a low profile and their PA Adele should be visiting her sick aunt, not attending a party. Little do they know that Eisenstein’s best friend Falke is plotting his revenge. By the end of the night all identities will be revealed and truths will be known.
As if this wasn’t exciting enough, two First years have been cast in principle roles. Sophie McAdam Clarke (BA Drama & Performance) and Paul Bruce (BA Film & Media) auditioned along with many others to be given the roles of Adele and Gabriel von Eisenstein in Strauss’ delightful farce.
Sophie only moved to the UK at the start of term after being born and brought up in Dubai. “I'm very interested in creating 'new' performance, mixing the old with the new and Die Fledermaus does just that. I have had technical training for 5 years and am excited to perform in a different singing style.”
Coming to Portsmouth has been like a mini homecoming for Paul as his Grandad was based in the Navy in Portsmouth. “I am so pleased to have landed the part of Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus especially given the fact I am a first year at the university, it is a massive honour. I am really looking forward to all the fun, hard work and challenges that the rehearsals and performances will bring.”
Die Fledermaus will be performed at The Kings Theatre from 1st – 3rd March. Please come along and show your support to one of the cities longest running dramatic societies. Tickets can be purchased from the website, or by contacting the box office.
