The Kings Theatre, Southsea, Portsmouth

-Bella! Bella!

It may have been damp outside, but inside the Kings Theatre on Sunday afternoon 10th June, the Italian sun shone with a great flavour of Italian singing, pasta and information washed down with fine Italian wines in the ‘La Dolce Vita – Life is Beautiful event’!

Developed from the link the Kings Theatre is establishing with the beautiful eighteenth century Teatro dell’Aquila theatre in Fermo, Italy, this was a brilliant opportunity to showcase the Mediterranean flavours with support from local businesses and Italian artists.

Freshly prepared pasta was delivered at regular intervals from the Bangkok Restaurant who had very kindly offered their kitchens for cooking the pallet load of pasta supplied free from Italy!

On stage, hosted by our own local pantomime ‘dame’ Richard Stride, films and live entertainment added to the enjoyment. Milan based IMA GINI presented ‘De Terra’  and ‘ I Camillas’ gave the whole atmosphere an added bounce with their comedy and singing.

Twinning with Fermo will give the Kings Theatre and Portsmouth the chance to exchange performers and we were delighted to have a direct message by phone from the General Manager of the Teatro dell’Aquilla as he wished the event well on the day.

Rounding off the event was the showing of the Italian award winning film ‘Life is Beautiful’ on the big screen.

Our visitors certainly seemed to enjoy the experience and a big thank you to everyone who made the event such a success.
