The Kings Theatre, Southsea, Portsmouth

Open Day 2013

Loads of Fun at the Kings Theatre Open Day

What an Open Day!

It may have been snowing and the roads not good north of Portsdown, but in Portsmouth it was the time to really enjoy the offerings on hand at the Kings Theatre in Albert Road, Southsea.

Fight classes; singing, drama and dancing workshops (and Dads doing ‘Bollywood’ style Bhanga dance is a great sight!); dressing up; being creative; working the follow spots or being a Heart FM DJ, it was all here to get involved with during an amazing all day event. Those wanting historical or technical backstage tours were not disappointed either with the opportunity to visit the fly floor and see parts of the theatre not usually accessible during shows.

Talking with Trust Director Mike Williams side of stage, mother of two girls Cheryl Kay said, “I didn’t know it was on until I saw it on ‘Facebook’ and so I shared it with my friends. My children are absolutely loving it!”

Circus skills enthusiasts and a 10 year old girl unicyclist performed on stage as did the University of Portsmouth Dramatic Musical Society showcasing their production of ‘Strike Up The Band’ which comes to the Kings in February.

A big thank you to the 80 performers, creators, leaders, artists, staff and volunteers who helped create a brilliant day and a big thank you to our visitors who came along to take part and enjoy the experience.

If you missed this year’s Open Day, it will be back again next year, so make sure you put it in your diary for January 2014!

You can follow us on Facebook and Twitter and see what people thought of the day and some brilliant pictures.
